A Day in The Life 2.0

Welcome to the second in a series of “Day in The Life” posts that I am doing with the wonderful ladies over at The Creative Mama.  This is what Tuesday, March 4th looked like in my world.

The day started off wicked sunny.  This was my view from my kitchen patio:

This was the view that I wanted to have that day, but alas, my workday needed to begin:

Not before a cup of Cream Earl Grey, though.

I spend a fairly huge amount of time in my car for my job.  I drive all over the city meeting pregnant ladies, talking about the volunteer doula program and matching them with doulas for their births.  When our fair city was “metropolized” (is that a word?), the city limits grew quite large.  On this day I was doing an 80km round trip to meet a mama.

It’s a given that when I spend so much time driving, my front seat begins to look a little chaotic.  Today I had gone into the basement and dug out all of my old CDs because I was feeling a little tired of my usual radio-listening routine.  Lilith Fair came out on top.

Then I was headed to the north end of the city to chat with some ladies at a prenatal class there.  The view from my parking spot was a stunner.  You can see the harbour in the distance.

At the end of the day, I was feeling a little stressed:  I always do when my day is spent on the road, knowing that there will likely be dozens of emails and a ton of phone messages to return to.  Being in the kitchen – literally the moment I pull out a mixing bowl or preheat the oven – causes my shoulders to drop about three inches and an immediate calm washes over me.

I was making these baked chocolate glazed doughnuts to share with a good friend who was coming over after I got Ada down that night to hang out and shoot the shit.

See that glaze running down?  Yeah, I thought you did.

Turns out, these doughnuts tasted just as spectacular as they looked.  My friend said they were one of the best things she’s eaten all year.  (she doesn’t spend enough time at my house!).

That’s it.  The brilliant sun that had been both plaguing and enhancing my photos all day began to set, I picked up the kiddo from daycare and did the dinner-bath-bed routine, and I had an absolutely marvellous time with my pal, chatting until midnight over tea and doughnuts.

As always, this Day in The Life post is a part of a blog circle with the other members of The Creative Mama team.  Keep the circle going and click on Samantha’s photographic chronicle of her day on March 4th.

  1. It is cruel and unusual punishment to post the donut photo without a recipe.

Lilith Fair! Some gorgeous performances on that.

    • I linked to the recipe!!! You should definitely try them – they can be whipped up and ready to eat within half an hour! Actually, maybe that’s a bad thing…..

  2. I love the ebb and flow of your day. Your pictures actually inspire me to use words like “ebb and flow.” Your narrative speaks of balance… work/ pleasure/ social. Loved it.

    • Thanks Clair! Gee, I’m glad my narrative speaks of balance…I’m not sure I actually accomplish it most of the time!! But who does, I suppose….
